Zak Abdallah

Swansea University

Dr Zak Abdallah is currently a Senior Lecturer in Sustainability, at the University of the West of England (UWE), with a particular interest in advanced materials and hydrogen technology. Prior to joining UWE, Dr Abdallah was the Technical Director at ITECH, a consultancy house and a registered business in the UK with the headquarters based in London. Moreover, Dr Abdallah was the Principal and Lead Academic of fracture and fatigue at the Steel and Metals Institute (SaMI) at Swansea University. During that role, Dr Abdallah was involved in monitoring the in-house activities of manufacturing steel and metallic systems, mechanical testing, and fracture characterisation under various testing conditions. In addition, his role involved activities related to tribology, surface engineering, metal joining, and hydrogen-induced corrosion. Dr Abdallah has also worked at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre at Swansea University working on materials-related projects for gas turbine applications including, but not limited to, Nickel, Titanium, and Steel alloys. The development of the power gearbox in the Rolls-Royce Ultrafan® aero-engine was one of the major projects on which Dr Abdallah has been working for several years. In the meantime, Dr Abdallah worked as a consultant for various industries, e.g. Airbus, TIMET, ETD, and Rolls-Royce, in the UK under the umbrella of Swansea Materials Research and Testing (SMaRT) Ltd. Dr Abdallah was the supervisor of several undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc and PhD/EngD) students working on various projects related to materials science. Dr Abdallah has a very good track record of publications in internationally-recognised and peer-reviewed journals alongside international conferences and open-access books. His research interests include Steel and Metals, Composite Materials, Materials Characterisation, Creep and Fatigue, Life Predictions of Materials, Thermo-Mechanical Testing, Heat Treatment, Tribology, Surface Engineering, Hydrogen Technology, Additive Manufacturing, Meta-Materials, Corrosion, Image Processing, Microscopy, MATLAB, FE Modelling and Metal Joining.

Advances in Fatigue and Fracture Testing and Modelling explores various aspects related to fatigue and fracture in metallic and non-metallic materials in terms of mechanical testing and numerical modelling. The book provides results of research work conducted by experts worldwide. It discusses fatigue failure of materials and presents possible numerical solutions. It also presents predictive models and finite element (FE) activities to illustrate the behaviour of materials in real-life conditions.
