October 24th marked the beginning of Open Access Week 2016 - seven days dedicated to highlighting and promoting free access to science’s latest achievements. We celebrated this week together with our collaborators.

The theme of this year's Open Access Week was "Open in Action," and to demonstrate this we had prepared a word association survey to see what Open Access means to our researchers.

In addition to getting to know what Open Access means to our collaborators, we wanted to give a scientific background to our Open Access Week celebration. Since word associations are deeply ingrained in the study of mental lexicons, we have prepared, together with Dr. Gert Storms (University of Leuven, Belgium) and Dr. Simon De Deyne (University of Adelaide, Australia), a short overview of their study of this very phenomenon titled “Small World of Words.” Their research on words is still ongoing and you can be part of it by filling out a short survey, available in 13 languages.

Last but not least, read about how we support not only Open Access but our researchers - where with every chapter shared, downloaded and reused, together, we are contributing to the further dissemination of knowledge.
