Miguel Ángel Fernández-Vaquero

Dr. Miguel Ángel Fernández Vaquero pursued his graduate studies in medicine and surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Seville from 1994 to 2000. In 2002, he joined the Military Health Corps of the Ministry of Defense of Spain. From 2002 to 2007, he participated in various national and international humanitarian missions with the Spanish Navy. Between 2007 and 2011, he specialized in anesthesiology, intensive care, and pain treatment, completing rotations in significant units in Spain such as the Polytrauma Unit of Albacete University Hospital, the Burn Unit of La Paz University Hospital, and the Cardiac Surgery Unit of Gregorio Marañon University Hospital. In 2011, he was assigned to the Central Defense Hospital in Madrid, Spain. From 2012 to 2018, he undertook international peacekeeping missions with the NATO alliance. From 2013 to 2017, he served as the medical coordinator at the Advanced Pain Management Unit Center at Hospital La Milagrosa. In 2018, he joined the Clinica Universidad de Navarra, where he currently serves as a consultant in the Anesthesiology and Critical Care Department. In 2022, he completed his doctoral thesis on point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) for airway management. Dr. Fernández Vaquero is an instructor in Advanced Life Support accredited by the Spanish Society of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine and Coronary Units (SEMYCIUC). Additionally, he teaches PoCUS for Airway Management and Advanced Life Support, Trauma Care, and Airway Management for the Spanish Army. Furthermore, he is a teacher of the International Lung Ultrasound Course alongside Professor Dr. Linchtenstein. Specializing in airway PoCUS, Dr. Fernández Vaquero is recognized as an airway management expert, a European Airway Management Society (EAMS) Airway Management Instructor, and a board member of the Learning, Teaching, and Investigation International Airway Group (FIDIVA). Moreover, he is an instructor for the Teach-the-Airway-Teacher Course with accreditation from the EAMS.
